Association of a Sustainable Tucson

I decided to start a Meetup group called Association of a Sustainable Tucson and we had our first meeting today at the park. http://www.meetup.com/Association-for-a-Sustainable-Tucson/ I feel the meeting went well, but I tend to enjoy the company of myself. One other person showed up. It was good to bounce some ideas off of her, Barbara Leinweber.

The meeting helped me focus the group a bit. I decided to make it a meetup group that travels to different events, classes, and places that have to do with sustainable thinking and implementation. I also want to focus on making a library of sustainable information through videos, recordings and writings. Which is still feasible through this meetup group. The other idea is to also highlight local businesses that participate in sustainable practices, either through what they sell, how they deal with their over-head, and/or waste and practices.

I feel like my first mini-goal would be to define "sustainability" and different ways one can utilize it.
I'll do that here:

- Recycling (clothing, fabric, plastics, metals, building material, furniture, etc...)
- Water Harvesting (rain water)
- Gray water system (reusing used/dirty water)
- Gardening (permaculture, composting, urban farming, aquaponics, community gardening, etc...)
- Solar Power (other alternative energy sources)
- Transportation (bicycles, bio-oil, public transportation, car-pool, etc...)
- Shelters (homeless, temp, small, off-grid, efficient, alternative building materials used, etc...)
- Community/public resource buildings (neighborhood associations, HOA's, community centers,  etc...)

I know there may be more or other "sustainable" things out there and I would love to hear from others about how we can use these things (people) longer, more efficiently, and for the long-term. Please feel free to email or comment.
